I editied this post on the 16th of August 2010 after the contribution I received from Andrew Boktor:
i was reading ur blog
and i came across “mariam”
i remembered that long ago i wrote a translation for the song to post it on my blog
but i never did
may be you could add that to your post
Mariam
is a name of a palestinian girl
that was born in the (refugee) camp
on the 11th of january,
doesn’t matter in which year

when she started talking
the days were pain
the nights were similar
waiting, loud, and cold

the young hated the tents
and the robbers of peace
the innocent flower ran
but the wire fence stopped her
it tore the dress, it grazed her
a drop of her blood ran
a drop of tear slept on her cheeks
which has the meaning of objection
which has the meaning of need
in her eye something asked
where is my home

mariam
is the name of a palestinian girl
that was born in the (refugee) camp
The childhood is not childhood in the (refugee) camp

the young don’t laugh,
don’t play
born with grey hair
between a problem and a rifle
and the problem is the same
it’s that
mariam
is a the name of a palenstinian girl
that was born in the (refugee) camp
on the 11th of january,
doesn’t matter in which year

Perception of Photography

April 24, 2010 Leave a comment

In this article I’ll be trying to analyse how people perceive  photography,  from my point of view, This article is based on Noticing and Personal Opinion … if you have another point of view please share it 🙂

Art is about expressing points of views and feelings. Nevertheless technical or conceptual mistakes could occur without decreasing the value of effort and art put in the piece. Perception of art is not a RULE, there is no right answer. Everyone sees the artwork according to his background of knowledge, interest and taste.

Photography is art, but not every photo shall hold artistic perspective in it, a very simple photo captured with the least settings can be meaning full in keeping memories for life time or delivering a great message. Nevertheless the presence of an artistic view shall give excellence to the photographer in every way.
Recently, digital Cameras gave the opportunity to everyone to capture his life moments and Facebook gave the opportunity to share them and get people’s feedback. Facebook also gave Professional Photographers and Hobbyists an easy and free channel of exposing their work and getting various judgements from people with different interests.Viewing pictures on Facebook and analysing people’s reaction. I reached the following results:

– An ordinary eye can differentiate between a good & a bad photo and between a good & an artistic shot. this becomes more obvious when someone is viewing a pile pictures, he skips some, he stares at others and stops at one and ask with excitement “OMG, HOW DID HE GET THAT SHOT?”

– Some people never say that a bad photo is bad, they’d rather not comment than writing their honest opinion. Others try to find the best about whatever photo posted i.e there is no bad photo for them. Few people try to provide a technical or a conceptual advice and this by far doesn’t mean that they don’t like the photo.

–  The photographer’s point of view is different for the same picture – including his own work- than the viewers.

-The availability of Facebook as a channel for sharing photos of professional Wedding photographers that is used highly for marketing, increases the competitiveness of the market in the favour of the client.

– People are attracted more to “People’s” Photography; most comments goes to Photos with people; Weddings, Engagements, Graduations, Trips and Groups of  friends despite the quality and the proficiency of the photo. The second category of interest goes to “Nature” and “Landscape” photography.

– Maternity and Child Photography are viewed as cute photos despite the art put in them, except for professionals.

– Modelling Photography is of interest to professionals & the model/photographers friends.

– Few comments goes to product, interior design and abstract photography, mainly if they are amazing shots.

– Profile pictures always attract the most comments and they depend highly upon the popularity of the profile.

Analysis is based on; my Photos, professional Photographers profiles and groups, Hobbyists, friends I know really interested in Photography and just those photos capturing memories and scattered all over Facebook. The Final step of my analysis is “Tell me your opinion” album.

Finally, I would like to stress that every comment a photographer receive on a photo is an added value to his skills and opinion whether it is a positive or a negative comment. And a photographer shall not be upset with a negative comment specially if it’s a critic for a technical or conceptual detail in the photo.

Brain Storming

March 6, 2010 1 comment

Things storming my mind … I just wrote it down and then I felt it might be good enough to be shared…

– When I was a baby, I was dreaming of  being a big guy. When I reached primary school, I was dreaming of  High school. In high School, I couldn’t wait to be a university student. In university I was very excited about practical life and it’s mysteries. In practical life, I am wishing to return a baby … That’s ironic !

– What’s a Life decision ? the difficult decisions that concerns our Studies, Careers and Love Life, decisions that you will build your whole life upon, those decisions that makes you think for days, discuss the matter with all your friends and family, google it.. and when somebody simply asks you “what’s up?” you stare at him as if he committed a crime asking you while thinking of a LIFE decision … and FINALLY, when you take the decision; in every good event occurring afterwards you admire yourself for choosing what ever you chose, and with every error occurring you  hate yourself and blame everyone for your stupid decision and when things just go normal with no ups and down you start doubting your decision.
Life is more easy .. just know what you really want and let it go nice and smooth and stop thinking with and without reasons … I know people who shifted career at the age of 30 (although the first was a life decision when they took it) and they are just happy and enjoying the change. Just relax and do what you feel and never think about wasting time, because each day you live and you adding something to yourself  is never a waste.

– When you want to prepare an outing and you call your friends they all claim “WESH, just specify a date and a place and we are totally in ya ma3alem”. And when you do it and message them with the date and place you determined one week a head, you start receiving apology messages or calls, (people have really busy schedules for the coming month .. seems i am the only free guy). Moreover and that really annoys me are those people who never reply my messages and appear on the day of the outing wanting to change the place. One Outing of those ended up with 6 people circling round the Globe to find a place that suits all six. P.s. the RSVP list exceeded 20.

– Graduation is a very emotional moment 100% related to memories and friends… I bet you if any one thought about this future or his job while throwing his Cap.

– Management is a way of  dealing with people … once I was sad studying it but now.. I wish everyone can understand it.

– Business and emotions can never be separated, no matter how professional you are, at the end you are a human being who has emotions and can or cannot bare certain decisions or specific work load… and this is why a whole Management Science called Human Resources Management is there to fix the relation.

– Youth are not UNEMPLOYED for economic reasons ONLY, but also because they suffer complete loss of dreams. Either they dreamt but never knew how to achieve that, or someone killed their dreams due to certain social stupidity. The hardest case is the ones who never learnt to dream.. w lw batalna ne7lam nemoot…

– Customers are always right …no matter how much you are satisfied with your business or whatever service you are providing, your clients are the indicators of your excellence or quality. So when a client  just gives you his opinion, something must be right about it.

– When you hear a story from someone concerning someone else. Never believe it completely, everyone of us prefers to add his spices to make the story interesting. And always take care the relation between sense of humour and the percentage of spices are directly proportional.

– If you have a camera, then for sure you can take photos but this doesn’t mean you are a photographer.. the surprise is if you don’t have a camera then for sure you can NOT take photos but this doesn’t mean you are NOT a photographer !!!

– Never tell an Artist, you artwork is “bad”,Firstly, Art is expressing point of views and feelings and secondly , there is what so called Artist’s EGO that really makes him mad (you don’t want to see a mad artist) . Instead discuss the technical or conceptual problem you can see (he will be delighted with that) or else just SHUT UP.

– When something really bad happens to you, something very good is there in between but you will never feel it unless you believed it’s there !

These are all only personal thoughts…inspired from what I lived and am living, to help me with what i am going to live.. they may change soon by age or experience but for now… they are storming 🙂

Bedazzled and طير انت

February 6, 2010 Leave a comment

Let’s Imagine;
What will happen if the devil really meets you and grants you 7 wishes in the return of your soul …
What will happen if a  Kind witch – who always fails at school-  grants you 7 wishes, just to sign his school certificate for him to be able to graduate…
What if in both cases you are just a lonely, pathetic desperate loser and your only hope is to fall in love with a beautiful girl…

That’s Bedazzled and طير انت…

Once I heard Ahmed Mekky in a TV interview saying that, it won’t be necessary to quote a movie unless you have an idea that adds up to it. Mekki, together with Ahmed el Guindy and Omr Taher quoted the American “Bedazzled 2000” in their hit comedy “Teer Enta” and i have to admit they added up much to the movie. I loved both movies; Bedazzled with it’s spiritual perspective and Teer enta with the social perspective. and i laughed much more in the Egyptian treatment.

Both Elliot Richards and Doctor Bahig lacked self-confidence and never had the courage to admit to their dream girls how much they admire them, they both thought that magic would change the reality, they both failed to believe that it’s all about them from the inside. Dr. Bahig after the unsuccessful 7 wishes – or I can call them the 7 sketches criticising the entire Egyptian society- discovered the reality of the relation between man and woman, found what’s best in himself and was able to marry his Dream Girl. Elliot Richards after the unsuccessful 7 wishes discovered that no one can buy his soul – because simply it belongs to GOD – knew the secret behind Heaven and Hell, and met his soul mate someday..

Watch the 2 movies and u have 14 wishes to learn from.

Special Mention: Donia Samir Ghanem Stunning performance in Teer enta.

Proud to be Egyptian

We did it !!!!!!!!!! We broke the record and won the African Cup 3 consecutive times (2006, 2008 and 2010)…and the 7th time in our history(1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008 and 2010)

Everyone agrees that Egypt was one of the best teams of this championship. Statistics confirm the superiority of the Pharaohs that in six matches scored 16 goals and have never lost.

Egypt won over 4 countries qualified to the World cup; Nigeria, Cameron, Ghana And above all Egypt returned it’s dignity back wining over Algeria 4 – 0 in the semi final match…

Egyptians are the best players in Angola 2010; Ahmed Hassan (Best Player), Mohamed Nagy Gedo (Top scorer), Essam El Hadari (Best Goalkeeper).

And finally Egypt managed to climb 14 places to tenth place in the World Ranking…This is not only Egypt’s highest-ever position in the ranking, but also the second-highest of any African team since the introduction of the ranking.

We must be proud.
